By PA-DE ASLA (other events)

ABOUT ABOUT

Landscape Architects in PA - DE, and elsewhere, have advocated for sound stormwater management within their site designs.  Stormwater management is an area of considerable professional overlap and cross-discipline cooperation.  As major cities such as Philadelphia lead the way in adopting sound stormwater management and Best Management Practices, there is an increasing need for landscape architects to enhance their technical competence related to stormwater management. Stormwater management is also an important aspect of the growing demands for green infrastructure designs as well as the performance metrics and measures being instituted by many rating systems, such as, SITES.

This full- day course will provide an understanding of the scale and scope of stormwater management projects with strategies for handling these projects. It is designed to help landscape architects enhance their technical competence related to stormwater management designs of small and medium scale projects. Topics will include an overview of stormwater management and ways of conducting runoff, volume, and infiltration calculations with commonly used software. Our goal is to focus on the technical, step-by-step 'how-to' skills and knowledge for ways of accomplishing quantitative aspects of stormwater management and their applications.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops to the course for “hands-on” learning.  In order to make the most of the day, homework will be assigned to participants prior to attending the course.
Lunch will be provided.
